Here’s a quick look at the process of creating the floating interface. Forgive the blurry pics – my camera phone sucks.
This is the finished inks for the panel.
Then I busted out my tiny light table. I think it only measures a little over a foot wide. It’s small, but perfect for small applications like this. I bought it at Hobby Lobby for 30 bucks or something?
Then I taped a comic sheet to the original…
…and drew the interface on that. I penciled it first and then inked over the pencils.
Took it into Photoshop, then cleaned and colored it. It needed to be bright and transparent so it would be noticeable, but hopefully not distract.
Then it was added on a separate layer in Photoshop. Here it is over the finished colors. There are a few steps I skipped over – like coloring it and layer effects, but those are things that (if you were going to do this) you should experiment and play with on your own. I think I used ‘overlay’ and then adjusted the Hue/Saturation menu.
