Practice

Before Armstrong, I wanted to define my own style. After TONS of random sketches I found a direction that I liked. From there, I drew the same characters 300 (exactly 300) times and as fast as I could – that way I could play with the style without thinking while sharpening the characters as minimally as I could. You can see the little numbers next to each sketch here.

It’s like practicing scales on a guitar (or anything really) – you have to do it hundreds of times before it becomes second nature, and then you can start crafting those scales into something that’s you.
