Couple panels from Issue Zero of Planet Gigantic. It’s a 12 page mini episode that sets off the story.

Sorry for the terrible cell phone pic. You can kind of see the blue pencil lines in the faces, but it’s pretty clear for their space helmets.

Any project where I can say “it’s pretty clear for their space helmets” and have it be relevant is automatically cool with me.

This is my new favorite video of all time. The boldness and larger than life visuals (while not taking himself seriously) are inspirational to me. Someone once asked me “How do you create art without truly caring about what other people think of it?” I don’t know the answer, but I think this singer is doing it.

Maybe the trick is to do whatever you’re doing with so much passion and confidence (not arrogance), that it’s impossible to care. I think people gravitate toward individuals like that.

Also – it might be because I’m (half) Korean that this Korean pop star appeals to me.

Finally, right? Well, not finally because it won’t be done until this winter, but at least it’s being worked on. Because it’s taken so long, I’ve decided to split the next trilogy into 2 parts. They’ll still total 100 pages, but rather than each part being around 33 pages, they’re now going to be 50 pages apiece. So that’s two extra large episodes of Armstrong!

Another reason why issue 04 has taken so long? Watercolor flashbacks.

Yes, I’ve made this episode that much more work because 1) it’s super cool, 2) it’ll be extra special, and 3) I hate myself.

Coming this fall – Amelia. This is more of an experimental (for me) Web comic. Experimental in everything – style, colors, layout, story, and design. It’s become a pretty ambitious project for me.

Not as long as Armstrong, but way more thought out – less panels, which means more intentional artwork. It’s the story of a little girl with big dreams.

This is a project I’m super excited to be a part of. It’s got everything I would ever ask for if I ever asked to do a comic. Writer Eric Grissom has crafted a massive world that I’m anxious to start drawing.

“Can it be in space? Can it be with kids? Can there be strong female leads? Can there be superpowers? Can there be giant insects? Alien races? Royalty?? Giant rock monsters?? Purple and pink skies?? Mysterious landscapes?? Glowing spacesuits??? Floating TV heads??? Yes to all these questions? Kay… I guess I’ll be a part of the project then…”

More about it at Grissom’s site.

This is the week I post teaser posters of the three comic projects that’s going to keep me up at night over the next 6 months. One today, Wednesday, and Friday.
I mean, what did you expect… the title pretty much said it all.
