Originally, I planned on having Bryce’s teacher in the Armstrong books – she still might make an appearance – we’ll see.

Her name is Miss Sweeney and 100% from the Weezer song Miss Sweeney.

Bryce would have this huge crush on her and always feel KO’d in her presence.

When she calls on Bryce to answer a question in class, I imagine him silently gazing at her as this song plays in his head.

Before Armstrong, I wanted to define my own style. After TONS of random sketches I found a direction that I liked. From there, I drew the same characters 300 (exactly 300) times and as fast as I could – that way I could play with the style without thinking while sharpening the characters as minimally as I could. You can see the little numbers next to each sketch here.

It’s like practicing scales on a guitar (or anything really) – you have to do it hundreds of times before it becomes second nature, and then you can start crafting those scales into something that’s you.

…that never went anywhere.

Here are some 11×17 Armstrong posters I did several months ago that were never printed. Why’d I even bother drawing them? Sheesh…

Actually, looking at them side by side like this kind of makes me want to get a full sized poster print with all three kids on it.
